Note: All packages here contain only binary (compiled) POD executables and documentation. Source code is not available. For Windows users, this is never a problem.  For Unix/Linux users, though, this means that you must download the appropriate package for your web server's OS. For example, POD for Linux only works on Linux, not FreeBSD!  Since most Unix web hosting companies are using Linux or FreeBSD, one of the version below should work for you.

POD for Win9x/NT/2000 (POD5_0.zip, 528 KB, version 5.32 with updated documentation, 04/27/02). Tested on numerous servers, including IIS, Apache, Xitami, Sambar, PWS, WebSite, etc.

POD for FreeBSD, dynamic link (POD_BSD_shared.tar.gz, 549 KB, version 5.32, 04/30/02). Compilation & Test. Notes. Important.

POD for FreeBSD, static link (POD_BSD_static.tar.gz, 738 KB, version 5.32, 04/30/02). Compilation & Test. Notes. Important.

POD for Linux, dynamic link (POD_Linux_shared.tar.gz, 623 KB, version 5.32 with updated documentation, 04/27/02). Compilation & Test. Notes. Important.

POD for Linux, static link (POD_Linux_static.tar.gz, 1.4 MB, version 5.32 with updated documentation, 04/27/02). Compilation & Test. Notes. Important.

The difference between the dynamic and static versions are:
"POD dynamic link" contains much smaller executables but requires your Unix/Linux web server have gcc 3.0 installed in /usr/lib (see Q&A DB for more info); "POD static link" does not have such a requirement but its executables are very big. You should always try to use POD dynamic link if your web server have gcc 3.0.x installed, or if your web hosting company honors user request to upgrade the standard gcc compiler. If your web hosting company does not want to upgrade gcc as it sometimes breaks the installation of some softwares, you might have to use POD static link (This web site is using statically linked POD version for Linux. The speed is not as fast as POD shared version on Linux/FreeBSD or POD running on Windows servers).

Important: Sometimes your UNIX/LINUX web hosting company did not configure server to allow .exe files to execute. In such cases, please rename fldb.exe and fldbconf.exe to fldb.cgi and fldbconf.cgi, because .cgi extension is usually supported. If server is configured right, setting an appropriate .htaccess file should correct this problem too (at least for Apache).

Compilation of POD for FreeBSD: FreeBSD 4.5 with gcc 3.0.4 for i386. Tested on Apache 1.13.24.

Compilation of POD for Linux: Redhat Linux 7.2 (Kernel 2.4.7) with gcc 3.0.1 for i386. Tested on Apache 1.13.24.
